Chauncy Simwaka

Chauncy Matthews Kaulungu Simwaka is the Secretary for Tourism, Culture and Wildlife in Malawi since December, 2021.   He is responsible for advising the Government on development and promotion of tourism, conservation and management of wildlife and uphold and promote national identity.  He is an Economist, holding a Master’s degree in MSc. (Economics) University of Wales, Swansea, UK. Postgraduate Diploma (Development Economics) University of Bradford, UK and a Bachelor of Social Science (Economics) from Chancellor College, University of Malawi obtained in 1990.

Chauncy Simwaka has worked for 32 years in the Malawi Public Service occupying various senior positions amongst which are Secretary to the Treasury, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, a Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Defence and budget director in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development.

Him together with a team of other experts, can be credited with the drafting of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regional indicative Strategic Development Plan; the SADC Strategy and Matrix for assessment of Poverty; the Malawi Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (2003) and the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy 1 and 2.
